adidas ClimaProof Carbon GK Glove
The adidas Fingersave ClimaProof is actually a strong all around glove. The name implies that it would be hot and sweaty in order to keep the players hands warm and dry in all weather. That has not proven to be the case. The gloves are quite comfortable in all but the hottest conditions. The palm material is a standard latex with embedded carbon particles adding to the grip in wet conditions.
The ClimaProof Carbons are an mid to upper tier glove ($85) targeted at advanced training and match play. They are a very durable glove and show little wear beyond the finger tips after more than 20 hours of practice and 6 matches. The price and durability of these gloves make them a good choice for training or as a sole source glove. The palm material is not as sticky as some others offered by adidas or others. This can actually be an advantage as a training glove, forcing a quality player to use proper technique instead of being sloppy and expecting the glove to make up the difference. This system does not use the adidas Energy Control System (ECS). I would not recommend using a training glove/match glove combination that have different weights as this may slightly change the movement of the ball or change the keepers reactions.
A note on reading addidas speak:
E?S represents the palm material. The higher number (replaced by the question mark "?") designates the generation of chemical formulation. It is often enhanced with an additional material for durability or grip. In the case of this glove it is carbon, but titanium is also common.
ECS (Energy Control System) is used on some of the adidas gloves to provide a slight change in weigh distribution. The idea is to push some of the weight out to the finger tips to enhance throws.
Clima... The Clima... terms are used throughout the adidas lines. The definitions below should apply to almost all of the products
- ClimaLite - light weight, very breathable/vented, moisture wicking - designed for higher temperatures/prolonged activity
- ClimaProof - mid weight, all weather, natural materials - designed for all around use including light rain/mist and moderate temperatures
- ClimaWarm - heavier weight, cold weather, water resistant - designed for winter/cold/wet weather
- ClimaCool - Lighter weight, warm weather, breathable
