adidas F50+ Training Short
The F50+ ($38) training shorts feature the ForMotion design. They have an asymmetrical design featuring a reflective strip on one side and the adidas tri-strip on the other. The shorts are fashioned from ClimaCool and have mesh patches to increase airflow.
These 100% polyester microfiber shorts are longer than typical with a 9” inseam. The bottom is curved making them even longer in the back. The shorts have mesh panels in the inseam to help with airflow and moisture wicking material everywhere else. The waist is both elastic and drawstring. We found that they run a little big in the waist.
Our dark shale/slime shorts are attractive and match the colors of the newest F50+ Tunits. Like most manufactured fibers, they are easy to maintain. Our shorts cleaned up easily with no signs of fading, shrinkage or staining. They also resisted wrinkles even when stuffed at the bottom of a duffle bag.
On the pitch, these sturdy shorts are comfortable to wear. At first, we were not sure about the longer length, but it certainly has some advantages. It helps keep some warmth in on cold wet mornings. The fabric is light enough that it moves easily and did not restrict movement. On the street, the longer length was only welcome on colder days. Otherwise, our testers would rather run in something shorter. In the gym, the added length covered legs that would otherwise come in contact with the equipment.
In general, this is a versatile garment. It is not the first pair of shorts we would buy or the “every day at practice” shorts that we would wear. However, the ForMotion design keeps things cool in the heat and the longer length provides coverage when it is cooler. That is enough to keep near the top of the list for Saturday morning training sessions and friendlies. The aesthetics are such that we would even wear them just to watch a game.
