adidas Predator Absolute X-TRX SG

The Absolute ($210) is the latest in the Predator line.  It carries the genetics of the line by providing a comfortable fit and solid power platform.  This generation includes an interchangeable insert component that puts the extra weight at the toe.

AVID Soccer Equipment Review adidas Predator Absolute X-TRX SGThe boot is constructed of a very soft kangaroo leather giving the upper very good feel.  The heel cup has an external counter that provides significant support.  The laces are asymmetrical to provide a clean surface.  The Predator DNA is obvious in the Liquid rubber elements designed to provide help bend the ball.  This is not as pronounced in the Absolute X-TRX, but it is still effective.

Our boots are a brilliant red/white combination.  The bladed studs have interchangeable aluminum tips.  The retention system makes the tips easy to remove, yet solid when locked in place.  We have had no problems with loose tips or with mud clogging the receiving points.  This is a significant improvement over the last pair of Predators we tested.

With the lighter inserts, they have the potential to be one of the lightest Predator’s we have used.  By changing the insert, it also provides a remarkable power platform.  The added weight, called “PowerPulse” by adidas places an extra weight directly under the kicking arc.  The weight is placed at a point in the boot to provide a boost to the kicking momentum.  This is the equivalent of using an oversized driver.

This is, without question, one of the best boots we have tested.  The Absolutes rated among the most comfortable we have tested.  They have been tested in daily practice and game conditions for several weeks and show little signs of wear.  The boots clean up easily.  We have noticed that the elastic used to hold down the tongue has stretched slightly.  This is not uncommon or surprising.
