The Select Classic ($20) is a basic training or recreation level ball.  The 32 panel machine stitched ball has a PVC cover and latex bladder.  This ball targeted at a female audience.

The Violeta’s color attracted the attention of our lady testers, but became kryptonite to the boys.  The metallic pinkish purple color was very definitely targeted at the girls.  The graphics are sprayed over the PVC cover.  Unfortunately, this is reduces their life considerably.  In fact, some of the graphics were scratched off before we even had air in the ball.

Graphics aside, the ball performs well.  It is a standard training level ball.  The PVC cover is water and weather tolerant.  The latex bladder holds air well and showed no signs of deformation.  The cover is smooth, but did not become overly slick when wet, allowing for good control.  The ball is on the lighter side of the regulation range.

Balls in this class can become very hard if overly inflated.  Players should be careful when filling with air to ensure that the ball has a slight give in the shape.  This will make heading and trapping the ball more comfortable without reducing the playability.  It will also extend the life of the ball.  PVC covers do not stretch much, so a highly inflated ball will put additional stress on the seams.
