DeFeet LeviTAtor Training Sock
The DeFeet LeviTAtor ($13) is a thin training sock designed to put additional padding at the impact locations. The sock uses zone construction to ensure the proper materials are used at each critical point.
These ankle socks are available in a variety of colors and patterns including the
Skull and several women’s only variants. They offer both stock versions and customized versions of many of their products. Our testers found many of the stock variation to be attractive; however, we have to say that our RRW custom socks are hideous. DeFeet can not control the aesthetics (or lack thereof) in their clients, so don’t hold this against them.
DeFeet has designed the LeviTAtor to specific materials for specific purposes. The cuff is a thin wicking material that holds shape well, although is does snag easily. The main body is also a thin breathable material called AirEAtor. The toe box and heel are both knitted of a thicker material to provide additional padding where it is needed most. The arch and foot bed are also constructed of a mid-thickness material to add support and padding.
Our testers were a bit surprised by these socks. The extra padding is very welcome when wearing boots,
but they can not be worn under knee socks. This limits their usefulness on the pitch to non-contact and fitness drills. Off the pitch, the extra padding limits the breath-ability of the sock. During distance runs, we found the thicker knit to limit airflow significantly. In cooler weather, this has been welcome. When things heat up, the socks will stay in the drawer.
DeFeet, founded in 1992 and located in North Carolina, is focused on athletic socks and apparel. The company believes in the “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday” philosophy that allows top level innovation to find its way to the main stream.
