adidas Telstar 74+

The original Telstar was the official World Cup Ball in 1970.  The 74+ ($13) is a standard 32 panel training ball in that tradition.  It is the unmistakable iconic Fußball.

The Telstar used in the FIFA World Cup, 1970 was the first white football decorated with black pentagons.  Mexico 1970 was the first live televised World Cup.  This required a design that made the ball more visible on black and white television.

AVID Soccer Equipment Review adidas Telstar 74+ RepliqueThis Telstar replique is a fairly good training ball.  The PVC cover will hold up well to most practice and weather conditions.  The cotton backing makes the panels slightly softer than most balls in this price point.  The butyl rubber bladder will retain air well and has held its shape.

Style wise, there is only so much that can be done when the goal is classic good looks.  In the case of the 74+, there are two options.  The ball is available in traditional white/black or a negative in black/white.  The traditional white/black look is updated with a gold pattern on the black pentagons.
