Bremen First Division Match Ball

The First Division ($75) is a FIFA and NFHS approved match ball.  This is one of the few match level balls available in a size 4.  In typical Bremen fashion, the construction is solid, but the styling is uninspired.

AVID Soccer Equipment Review Bremen First DivisionBremen offers four balls claimed as Match quality.  The First Division is second from the top behind the oddly named FC Micro.  This 32 panel ball features the same four point star pattern used on all Bremen balls.  The First Division is constructed of polyurethane backed by a Japanese microfiber called Cordley.  The multi-layer cover includes a small amount of padding.  The padding does not make a noticeable difference in playability or feel.  The bladder is butyl rubber instead of the latex used in most match balls.

Unlike most balls, our example was shipped fully inflated.  Normally, a ball is shipped empty to save on the shipping costs.  At its arrival, our First Division contained 9.2 psi.  This is indicative of a match ball.  The First Division carries a three year guarantee.

At the $75 list price, the First Division is overpriced.  At the time of this writing, the going price is under $30.  At this price, it is a good value.  The First Division is not a remarkable ball in construction, style or playability.  It makes a solid training ball or an inexpensive match ball.

Statistics:

  • Weight: 15 oz / 425 grams
  • Suggested pressure: N/A
  • Tested pressure: 9.2 psi
