AVID Soccer Award 2007 "Best Goal Keeper Glove"

This year, the three nominees of AVID Soccer's Goal Keeper Award are all boned gloves.  We selected top gloves from the leaders in the field. Reusch, Nike and adidas all produce World Class products used by both National players and top flight keeps world wide.

Improvement this year has been mostly incremental.  Boned gloves are getting softer, more comfortable and better grip.  Each of these offerings fit their purpose well and are rated for match level play.

Without futher delay, here is are our results:

  • Nike T90 Spyne Pro - The Spyne is Nike's reentry into the boned glove market.  There are two offerings.  The Spyne Pro is a lower cost option.  At this price, it is a fine practice glove and adequate match glove.  For versatility, it is outstanding.  It worked well in most conditions and held up over time.  Still, in this group, it finished third.
  • adidas FingerSave Wetgrip Ti - adidas offers many match level gloves.  In most cases, the differences have to do with the type of latex used on the palm and the cut/style.  Special editions, such as "the Kahn" are also available.  The Wetgrip Ti are some of the best conditional gloves we have tested.  adidas has also improved the bones again.  They are made of a multi-density material that is still the best bones in the business.

"... and the winner is..."

  • With unanimous voting, the Reusch Duo Ortho-Tec won.  When we first tested these gloves, they were the extremely comfortable.  They have proven to be durable and balanced.  The Duo in the name describes the two layers of latex foam used in their design.  Like the adidas, the Ortho-Tec bones are made of a multi-density material.  While it is not as advanced a design, it is extremely effective.  The Reusch gloves also have the advantage of an optional thumb bone.  Our readers also voted the Ortho-Tec as the most comfortable and most effective glove this year.
