Nike Tiempo Premier SGT Glove
The Tiempo Premier ($120) is the first boneless glove AVID Soccer has tested in over a year. This pro-level glove has a unique wire pattern in the palm latex giving it a very sticky surface. The soft molded latex backhand is comfortable and flexible.
These royal blue or black gloves have several unique features. The 4mm palm latex is grooved to provide all condition grip. Nike calls this Sipe Grip technology and works like the tread pattern on tires. It gives water a place to go and provides additional friction. The gloves also feature mesh inserts between the fingers and at the thumb joint to provide venting. In addition to heat dissipation and airflow, this allows the gloves to dry more quickly after a wet game.
The Bio Align design combines pre-curved fingers with embossed joints. The thumb is wrapped for additional adhesion. Inside the glove, the finger tips have small impressions to provide additional tactile feedback. This, combined with the lack of structural support, make the fingers exceptionally flexible.
Under normal conditions, this increases the risk of hyperextension and injury. However, under cold conditions, boned gloves can become extremely stiff. The latest generation of bones feature multi-density plastics for articulation. These materials become increasingly stiff as the temperature drops making saves problematic. AVID Soccer does not recommend boneless gloves for players younger than 15. Even at that age, it becomes a personal preference. We recommend that players at least practice with boned gloves.
