Calle Primero Street Ball
Street soccer is basically the outdoor version of futsal. Playing most places means trash can goals, curbs as sidelines and car timeouts. The Primero ($40) is specifically designed to handle these conditions. The ball is heavier, abrasion resistant, and low bounce.
This street ball is constructed of a textured rubber outer casing. This gives it some amount of weather resistance and good abrasion resistance. Both characteristics required for playing in the street. The bladder uses a premium latex. In general, latex provides more feel, but the rubber casing counters this.
Available in black, red and white, the Primero is only produced in a size 4. Even so, it is one of the heaviest balls we have tested. The smaller ball lends itself to faster feet and a more skillful game. The low bounce characteristics keep the ball on the deck and under control.
Beyond its use as a street ball, the Primero makes a great skills ball. The extra weight and low bounce build confidence for juggling and tricks. The smaller size make those things more difficult for high school players and result in significant improvements when attempted with a game ball. AVID Soccer is a strong advocate for small sided games and fast feet. Futsal, beach soccer and street soccer are all great ways to enhance ball control, individual creativity and soccer instincts. These games are fast and they force the player to react quickly - play fast, but don't rush. All of this translates to significant improvement when applied to the pitch.
