Turf shoes like the Maracana TF ($88) are a way to get an all around boot with a soccer soccer specific upper and an outdoor sole.  The Diadora, is comfortable and provides a stable kicking platform.

We tested the Maracana TF at the CalSouth State Cup tournament.  Conditions at this event were unpleasant at best.  With temperatures around 35° C (95° F) and dry winds, our black test examples faired reasonably well.  The shoes were comfortable all day.  They did not get too hot.  The kangaroo upper breaths well and the venting patch helps with sweat.

Boots of this nature are typically used for a few different purposes.  The studded outsole is good for hard ground, carpet turf and solid out door surfaces.  For more information on boot types, see these articles Part One, Part Two.  In addition to play, turf shoes make great coaches boots.  They have the same upper as the Maracana cleats, but have more padding in the midsole and an all around tread pattern.  The outdoor tread also works much better on the pitch than indoor shoes.

The upper is constructed of a combination of water resistant kangaroo leather and a stretch resistant lining.  This insures that the boots will fit well after significant wear.  The boots are very comfortable from the first wear, so this is helpful.  We found the boots to be light and flexible and still provide ample padding for all day use. 

The Maracana uses two of Diadora's technologies.  The first is Axler.  Axler is a flexible wire to assist in natural movement.  The zig-zag pattern at the forefoot allows for flexibility, while the straight overlap in the back provides stability.  The second is Touch Control (TC).  TC is either stitched or molded ridges in the toe box to provide additional ball control for bending and placement of kicks.
