Lanzera Prato Goalkeeper Glove

The Prato ($120) is a basic match level or training level glove.  This is a dry ground/hot weather glove with removable bones.  The straight cut fingers have a mesh venting on the sides.

AVID Soccer Equipment Review Lanzera Prato Goalkeeper GloveThe entire glove is constructed of a breathable mesh.  The palm is a single piece of very soft 4mm latex.  The backhand is a multi-part pad.  The fingers and center of the thumb is one piece with the backhand as a circle containing the Lanzera logo.  The typical finger cutout to see the bones.  The inside of the palm contains a bit more padding.

The bones extend a bit farther that we would like.  This creates an odd bump just below the knuckle.  The fingers are a bit harder to close than we would expect from a match level glove.  The closure is a standard elastic and bandage unit.  The palm material extends to the end of the gauntlet creating a flat stable catching surface.  The bandage is latex on top of Velcro.  This arrangement is less comfortable, but much longer lasting.  The bandage is designed to have a name/number embossed or embroidered.

While the Prato is a good glove, it seems a bit dated compared to competitive offerings.  We put these firmly in the training category.  As a training glove, they work well.  The venting and light color makes these good hot weather gloves.  The extra padding makes repeated shots easier to manage.  We do question the long term durability, but we did not experience any problems.  The multi-part backhand is just begging to rip.  The super soft latex will not provide much abrasion resistance with repeated dives.  Please note that these are not wet weather gloves.  The flat surface and straight latex formulation does not provide as much grip under very wet conditions.  Keep them for the hot dry days.

The Lanzera brand is owed by Reda Sports Corporation in the US.  They also operate Kappa and Uhlsport.  They distribute products through retailers on-line and brick and morter.

Several of the gloves that you review have boning that is removable, but you make no mention of replacing, if necessary. Is there a possibility of needing replacements? How would one go about acquiring said replacements?

Thank you for your time, hard work and opinions. I particularly enjoy your broad-ranging reviews; they seem quite thorough and objective. They are very helpful.

    Thank you, again.

Some companies offer replacement bones. Lanzera does not, but other bones should fit in the slots if needed. In general, the latex on the palm wears out much faster than the bones. The only reason for replacing them is breakage. Gloves that are properly cared for, should only break during hyperextension or a defect. If it is a defect, contact the retailer or manufacturer. They may be replace the gloves or provide a replacement bone.
