ASER 2009 Best Ball Nominees

To play our game, all that is needed is a players, goals and the ball.  This year did not see fantastic improvement or astonishing changes.  Our nominees from adidas, Nike and Puma represent professional level balls.

First up is the adidas Jabulani ($150)

This is the South African World Cup ball.  It represents the evolution from the first TeamGeist ball used in the 2006 WC.  This "celebration" ball is a unique uses a 3d panel design constructed of thermally bonded poly urethane.  This allows for near perfect balance and consistency.  Like the previous generation, the cover is textured.

Next is the Nike Total 90 Ascente ball ($140).

The T90 is used in the English Premier League.  The color patterns are designed to be easy to see, while including subtle grey scale images for style.  The cover is textured for better aerodynamics.  The Ascente's panel design blends traditional pentagons with uniquely shaped joining pieces to provide a more consistent shape and feel.

Third, but definitely not last, is the Puma King XL ($50)

A varient of this is the official ball in the WPS.  At a third the price, it provides a traditional 32 panel design with a twist (see our earlier review for more details).  The bladder alos has a unique six wing latex implementation for outstanding feel.
